  1.                        Peripheral Vascular Disease
  2. SYMPTOMS. Signs include cramping leg pain while walking, coldness, numbness,
  3. burning and tingling. The cramping is relieved by rest.
  4. CAUSES. Not entirely clear at this time but it is believed that excessive
  5. smoking may be a factor. May be due to an obstruction that results from
  6. atherosclerosis (fatty deposits). It most commonly affects the legs. An
  7. inflammatory condition that roughens the inner walls of the blood vessel and
  8. may lead to the formation of a clot may be the result of BUERGER'S DISEASE
  9. which is also known as thromboangitis obliterans.
  10. TREATMENT. May lead to gangrene (and amputation) if left untreated.
  11. .Medication to dilate the blood vessels may be prescribed.
  12. .May require bypass surgery. Stop all use of tobacco products.
  13. .Special exercise may be required to aid circulation.
